A Sesssion Or Two
Well I thought it was time to put pen to paper so to speak, I have been asked to write books but I always run out of things to say after chapter one.

I think to describe a session is fun to write as I am finding out.

The first session I am going to share was not successesful but none the less eventful. The planning for the session came from e-mails to and from friends, the excitement grew as the time passed, the reports coming in from the water were very promising a few 40lbers had come out and lot of 35 lbers.

Well time for planning passed and the arrival at the water, first one the spot that I had been eyeing was taken these were the producing swims at the time, so it was to be expected.

The two other anglers were not far behind me in arriving at the water, greeting over with, setting up camp was the order of the day.
The tents were set up, positions of the pods was done with a felt eagerness, canoes were loaded with freebies and markers, off we went each to the area we had discussed on the bank, started pluming the depth. I was looking for the hole and then had decided to fish its banks, at 20 to 25 ft.

This took a good three hours, to take out the freebies and get all four rods into position, the last trip out to remove all the markers. This done we could settle down for a chat and drink coffee.
The time had passed so quickly, it was soon time to set about preparing supper, in the email planning it had been decided each one of us would prepare a supper for the others. True to the written words this was done, it gave me time to phone the better half and a few friends that had phoned to see if we had arrived safely. To give JNR some bird seed, ah yes who is JNR well it is the only surviving goose of a load that had been left there, it seems at night fall the goose feels a lot safer near to the anglers camps, in the very shallow water near the rod pods.

Supper being a thing of the past a decent fire was lit and we sat around the fire discussing the new tackle on the market.
A day at the water seems to only last 12 hours instead of the full 24 hours for some reason.
We all had an uneventful nights sleep, so now its was discussions about where the baits are do we leave them, do we pull them out and rebait.

Then I got a nice steady beep on my inside rod, slowly picking up speed as I got closer to the rod, fish on, the excitement was high, not long into the fight I could feel something was not right, the fish was bumping but not kiting, I asked one of the other chaps to pull the canoe closer, too late the fish was snagged, I went out could still feel the fish bumping so I thought I still had a good chance to land the fish, this was not the case, the line was well tangled into to lines that had been left, so fish lost.
I pulled out the line, but one of the lines I could not get out, so now I had the worry of where was this second line, was it over my other lines.
No wanting to disturb the swim during the “happy hour” I left the rods.

I was not confident so that afternoon I pulled out the remaining lines rebaited and took them back out. I did not snag on the line when I retrieved the other lines but I did move the position slightly.
The rest of the day was spent discussing, a few tactics and anything to do with fishing that came to mind.
Again it was night fall all too quick, but supper prepared and the day’s events now history, sleep time was soon upon us.

Then nothing nicer than to be woken by the sound of an alarm screaming, this time it was one of my friend’s rods, a really beautiful common carp to 11 kgs was landed. Pictures taken, fish released, luckily it was late at night, so not many saw what had happened. All the swims around us had been occupied for the weekend.

The next morning I got a run again and lost it again to lines in the water this was getting to be frustrating.
All too soon it was time for one of my fishing partners to pack up, he could at least leave with the happy thoughts of an 11kg carp under his belt from a hard water.
I decided the frustration of loosing two fish to lines was one two many, so retrieved my lines, took the canoe and lulled a small grappling hook across the swim, this resulted in me spending a good few hours on the water, retrieving old lines, rigs and a tree stump.

The task of getting the old lines out complete I rebaited and took my lines out again also spread out some freebies.
The disturbing the swim was not doing my confidence any good, it was a hard time of year for fishing this water, then add disturbing the swim for a few hours.

Well my friend and I redid his lines, so as far as baiting up was concerned we could do nothing but wait.
We had seen plenty of activity earlier so my confidence did get a bit of a boost, to know there were fish in the area.

Well two days past like lighting, we had to pack up, with nothing to show for our efforts but a load of old lines.
The time spent together had been good we consumed high amounts of coffee, exchanged a few ideas. In all a blank was recorded in the little black book.
