Stiff Rig
Stiff Rig
Lets have a look at the stiff rig. This is a very simple rig to make and can be used with great success on a lot of our local waters. One of the reasons for this rig to be so efficient is the fact that the stiff mono line will push the bait away from the lead. When it gets picked up it is directly on the lead that makes for a much more efficient hook set. It has brilliant anti-eject properties because of the stiff hook link material making it almost impossible for the carp to eject it. When the carp do attempt to eject the hook link will bend and almost instantaneously jump back into position and thus causing the hook to set. Some of the hooks you can use on this rig are ESP Stiff Rigger MK2 , The Korda Choddy Hook and the Gardner D-Ceptor Carp Hook. Keep in mind however that with a stiff rig the bait does not act as naturally as when using soft hook link materials like braid, so this rig might not be that successful in waters were the carp are wary or skiddish.
