Potch Social 2010
Potch Social 2010
We arrived at Potch dam around 6:40am, Stefan and Jan was already there but it was too cold for them to start setting up. As Friday got hotter we started to unpack and setup all our gear, Stefan gave us our cool shirts as it was hot enough to show it off!!!!! Later in the day, Dallas arrived and I got to meet the man who caught the most carp for the weekend. After Hennie did some feature finding I borrowed his dingy and took in my lines... then the big wait started.. We all knew already that this was mostly a night dam… As daylight started coming to an end more people started arriving, and after meeting and greeting I must say what a friendly bunch of blokes! As it got darker it was time to get some meat on the grill. We all sat and chatted time away as the night progressed. Our cold sensor (Stefan) was the first to grab a jacket track shoot pants as it started to get very cold. We got a nice warm fire going and continued telling jokes and talking crap. Then we saw some camera flashes at Dallas's swim,. Stefan wanted to go look but I opted to rather go to be. Just as we turned, my one rod had a nice run.. but when I lifted my rod I knew the fish was off. I went to bed a bit disappointed in not hooking up my first run.
The Saturday morning was hectic due to the wind blowing heavily and the air ice cold. All of us were on a go slow mission mostly talking crap and learning some new stuff from Stefan and Hennie.. (Thanks Guys!!!) Later that day we had a social gathering at Boerboels swim, where Loutjie tried to sell us some rods for a good price(want as dit vir my werk sal dit vir jou kan werk) LOL! AKA Louis(DOCKS). Louis showed us how to splice leadcore etc. We all sat chatting for about an hour or two about venues and next year's Anglershaven's Big 3. Around 15H30 we all took our liquid beverages and chairs back to our swims to bait up and get our lines out for the night. Around 6pm we were all playing around with bass rods trying to catch some bass. We did manage to catch one or two..
We did the same as the Friday night, chatted and had some chow.. later that night we had a nice fire going where Boerboel and his peg mate joined us and we sat chatting for a while. I went to bed around 10pm as I was bushed sleeping through two of Stefan's runs. On his 3de run I woke up, still stoked that I didn't wake up for the first two I went back to bed.. Around 4am my alarm started screaming for help. As I jumped out of the car my head and hands was the first to touch ground as my foot got stuck on my sleeping bag(gat oor kop aksie) but I managed to hook the fish. As I was reeling in you could see the carp reaching top water and I knew that my weight has come off as I hoped. Looked like a golden shark with the little fin sticking out. I landed a 6.2kg common and went back to bed just after releasing it and waking UP again around 6am.
We started packing up slowly and left around 10am as the weather was crappy with wind and cold spoiling visions of a late departure, bringing to an end a awesome weekend. To all the AH members that attended I would just like to make use of this opportunity to say thank you and it was truly great to have met you all. Martinus.
